Fifth Circle - Anger 5ml - Pine, vetiver, bay leaf, grapefruit, pennyroyal, rose nectar and dark musk.
The Fury Beneath the Surface
The waters of the Styx churn without rest.
Beneath its black surface, the wrathful rage and strike at one another for eternity, consumed by the fury that ruled them in life. Below them, hidden beneath the mire, the sullen lie submerged and silent, their resentment turned inward until it became its own prison.
In Dante's Inferno, the Fifth Circle is not reserved merely for anger.
It belongs to those who could not master it.
Those who surrendered to rage.
And those who buried it so deeply that it poisoned everything around them.
Anger is fire.
But resentment is water.
Both can drown a soul.
Fifth Circle – Anger captures the many faces of wrath: explosive, smouldering, bitter, and deeply human.
Pine rises first, sharp and commanding. It evokes storm-lashed forests, splintered branches, and winds powerful enough to uproot ancient trees. There is an immediacy to it, a force that demands attention.
Bay leaf follows with a dry, aromatic edge. Once associated with victory and triumph, here it takes on a harsher character. It becomes pride wounded, ego challenged, and the stubborn refusal to yield.
Grapefruit cuts through the composition with startling brightness. Tart and bitter, it mirrors the sharp sting of anger itself—that sudden flash of emotion that arrives before reason has a chance to intervene.
Vetiver anchors the fragrance in darker territory. Earthy and root-like, it evokes anger that has lingered too long. Grievances nurtured over years. Old wounds revisited until they become part of one's identity. It is the scent of resentment sinking deep into the soil.
Pennyroyal moves through the composition like a warning. Herbal, cool, and slightly unsettling, it introduces an undercurrent of danger beneath the brighter notes, suggesting emotions that are no longer entirely under control.
Then comes an unexpected note.
Rose nectar.
Sweet and delicate, it seems almost out of place amongst the sharper elements. Yet its presence reveals an essential truth about anger: it rarely emerges from nowhere. Beneath fury often lies hurt. Beneath resentment often lies love betrayed, trust broken, or hope disappointed. The rose reminds us that the deepest wounds are often inflicted by the things we care about most.
Dark musk settles over everything like the waters of the Styx itself. Rich, shadowed, and consuming, it binds the composition together in an atmosphere of brooding intensity that lingers long after the brighter notes have faded.
Fifth Circle – Anger is a fragrance of wrath, bitterness, wounded pride, and buried resentment. It explores the emotions that burn hottest within the human heart and the consequences of allowing them to take root.
Because anger passes.
But resentment learns to swim.
