The Spiritualist Wire-Wrapped Pendant

A deep amethyst sits at the centre of a tangle of sterling silver—although tangle perhaps gives the silverwork rather less credit than it deserves.

The stone is wrapped entirely by hand, with the silver drawn into coils, curls and sweeping lines that cross the surface and gather into a wonderfully elaborate arrangement above it. Polished sterling silver beads are incorporated into the wirework, adding a little solidity amongst all those fine, restless lines.

The result has something of the eccentricity of Victorian jewellery, when gemstones, symbolism and a fascination with unseen things could happily occupy the same drawing room.

Measuring 6 cm long × 2 cm wide, The Spiritualist is slender enough for everyday wear but intricate enough to become considerably more interesting when someone gets close enough to inspect it.
